Về Citrea
Citrea is a zero-knowledge rollup on Bitcoin that adds programmability without changing Bitcoin's consensus: transactions execute offchain, proofs are posted to the Bitcoin mainchain, a BitVM-style challenge mechanism constrains the bridge, and users deposit BTC for cBTC to use inside the rollup.
It targets Bitcoin's lack of general smart contracts and the multisig custody that sidechains rely on. The critical piece is the Clementine bridge, which splits custody across participants and uses fraud proofs for accountability, shrinking the room for single-party misbehavior, though trust assumptions remain weaker than Bitcoin's native rules. Since mainnet launched in 2025 the ecosystem has centered on lending and stablecoins at a scale far below Ethereum L2s; proof costs and competition for block space are long-term constraints, and bridge security needs more time to prove.

Citrea activated mainnet on January 27, 2026, becoming the first Bitcoin-native ZK-rollup (zkEVM) application layer that enables lending, trading and settlement directly on the Bitcoin network. The launch introduced the native asset cBTC and the ctUSD stablecoin (issued by MoonPay on M0 infrastructure, fully backed by short-term US Treasuries and cash, compliant with the GENIUS Act), plus the BitVM-based Clementine bridge for trust-minimized two-way pegging. It debuted with more than 30 Bitcoin-secured applications, including lending infrastructure built with Morpho and UltraYield and structured products from Keyrock. The project had previously raised about $14 million from backers including Founders Fund and Galaxy.
Future strategy and roadmap: Citrea will focus on growing Bitcoin-denominated on-chain financial activity, rolling out additional applications and structured-yield products in the weeks following launch while strengthening incentives for Bitcoin miners. Its longer-term aim is to expand Bitcoin from a store of value into a more active, programmable financial asset, building an institutional-grade capital market on its zkEVM anchored to Bitcoin's data-availability layer.
