Unit (Hyperunit) is the asset tokenization layer for Hyperliquid: native BTC, ETH and SOL are locked and minted as onchain spot, so they can trade directly against Hyperliquid's order books. It fills a structural gap — Hyperliquid settles only in USDC and has no native BTC or ETH spot. For traders this means using BTC directly as margin and settlement instead of converting to stablecoins first.
The mechanism is a lock-and-mint bridge, with assets held by the Guardian network under a two-thirds multisig and OFAC screening plus geofencing before deposits. It supports about 13 assets, has processed over $14 billion in cumulative deposits and withdrawals, and added Solana assets such as ANSEM in July. In April 2025 a Guardian outage delayed BTC withdrawals, and reserve attestations are not publicly third-party audited — the bridge's trust model is the main risk. Deposit addresses and custody are managed by the network itself.

Unit (Hyperunit) became the primary on-ramp for spot assets on Hyperliquid in 2026. As Hyperliquid's asset-tokenization layer, it uses a lock-and-mint bridge to bring native BTC, ETH, SOL and more on-chain as 1:1 redeemable uBTC, uETH and uSOL, secured by a 2-of-3 MPC Guardian network run by Unit, Hyperliquid and Infinite Field. Lifetime deposits have passed $14 billion across over a million operations, and UBTC/USDC is among Hyperliquid's busiest spot books (~$54.5 million in 24-hour volume in mid-October). Coverage keeps expanding — adding ZEC (UZEC), AVAX, XPL, MON, VIRTUAL and Solana tokens such as PUMP, FARTCOIN, SPX and BONK — and Unit serves as the day-one trading venue for high-profile TGEs like PUMP and XPL. The protocol charges no deposit/withdrawal fee, only source- and destination-chain network fees.
Future strategy and roadmap: Unit's moat is 1:1 native-asset parity plus being Hyperliquid's default deposit address: more than $14 billion deposited over its lifetime, about $437 million of TVL and roughly $3.66 million in annualised fees, with corridors extending from BTC, ETH and SOL to Plasma's XPL and Monad's MON. The strategic constraint is its trust model — a 2-of-3 MPC split among Unit, Hyperliquid Labs and Infinite Field, with a roadmap to widen the Guardian set and open governance, which decides whether institutional treasuries can use it; the team is self-funded with no disclosed outside round, so expansion is bounded by its own cash flow, while OFAC screening and IP geoblocking keep it usable for institutions. Across, Stargate, deBridge and Mayan all chase the same inflows, and Unit's difference is no wrapper and no issuer, not fees.
